# Selecting an asset type

The asset taxonomy is completely configurable by users in the Project Portal, this is the 4 level hierarchy that allows surveyors to select the relevant asset type or building element.

1. Add an asset, by tapping Capture Asset, or Select Asset within a room.
2. The taxonomy can be navigated by tapping the relevant elements and sub elements to find the right item. Tap ‘Up a level’ to go back to the previous level in the hierarchy.
3. The search bar at the top of the screen allows assets to be found easily by typing in key words. The dynamic search applies across all levels.
4. The ‘Recently Used’ button accesses a list of asset types that have been captured within the survey, offering a quicker way to select common asset types. To go back to the taxonomy, tap the ‘Full Asset List’ button.
5. If the wrong asset type is selected, it can be edited by tapping the edit icon next to the asset name.
